Various events throughout the year are held on the Pacific Electric trail. When the Rialto section officially opens on May 28, the trail will span 21 miles from the Los Angeles County line in Claremont through Montclair, Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, and Fontana. Rialto’s part ends at Cactus Avenue just north of Rialto Avenue. The trail follows the path of the former Pacific Electric Railway San Bernardino line, famous for red trolley cars that went from Pomona to San Bernardino in the early to mid-1900s. The route later carried freight trains. San Bernardino Associated Governments, the county’s transportation planning agency, bought the right of way in 1991.
